The reason why students do cheating is because of fear to get failing grades. Hence, they afraid to be failed then they will cheat to earn high score. Students did not think the importance of learning. What they aim is to get high grades even without learning the lessons.
The system of education and employment, is that only those who perform will in the class get high grades and eventually after graduation gets hired in the world of work. Competition! This is really the hindrance to learning. The beauty of learning is not enjoyed by the students because our system prefer competition. We let the students pass even if their learning is only seventy-five percent. What about the remaining twenty-five percent? It will remain in their whole life unlearned. Some of the students quit studying because they can not catch up the lesson because the teacher is moving fast in favor of the fast learner. Most often, the slow learner will be neglected. Eventually, become frustrated to learn. Thus, this students if will be misguided by their parents become problems in our society.
As educators, we will encourage the students not to be afraid of getting failure and avoid cheating. Assure them that all of them will pass the subject with their full cooperation to study. Our system of "mass acceleration" is the root of unemployment in our society. We allow students to pass even if they are not yet ready for work. Their skills are not yet fully develop. Provided that they earned 75% then so be it. Not knowing that this 75% is achieved by cheating. In the end, we produce poor quality of citizens in our society having 75% of educational learning. Although, others can be acquired through experience. But what about the things that they need to be learned?
I believe that every individual is a learner in his own pace of learning style, speed and acquisition. All things can be learned if we will just wait them to learn. If we allow every individual [student] to learn everything without in hurry of time, we will end up with a perfect society with all individual achieve the full potentials, enhance their multiple intelligence, develop skills and ability.
Let us not abandon slow learner, we will wait for them to learn 100% of the learning competencies required so that they will not be behind others who are fast learner. Grades does not signify what the students have learned but it actually signify how fast the student to learn. Of course, fast learner will always get a high score because he learned more than 75% of the teacher's lesson. Precisely, he can answer most of the questions. How unfair, isn't it?
Achievement tests conducted, does not actually measures the content of learning of the students. It measures the speed of the students to learn. Imagine, teachers will be in hurry to catch up the budget outlay in order to cope up with schedule of achievement test. What is the real score? Teachers will just give advance questions to the students. Questions that are expected to come out in the test. Truly, teachers also are afraid to get low scores because it will reflect their performance. Ironically, education supervisors will point out teacher factor in the making. However, it is actually the kind of learner that we have.
Our government officials, school administrators and supervisors are not ignorant to the kind of pupils and students the Philippines have. But why they insist mass acceleration? Why they promote competition? Competition are good for the best and not for the poor. Only one wins in every competition. What about the losers? Did we realize the reason why they loose? Or did we realize the effect of loosing in the competition? Bottom ranks are always the last choice. Sad to say, there are still first generation graduates who are behind from the later generation graduates. Because they are outranked!
Why shouldn't we implement the "First Graduate, First Hired" if we prefer competition. So that competition begins at school and not in the world of work. Fast learner to get job first after school, then followed by those who completed the course even slow but 100% complete. No ranking in job hunting if we let them in one by one.
